Lucille had 5 Happy Dollars because she is headed to Aruba for vacation ....... where there is no snowmobiling!
Jim Julia shared a Happy Dollar for a great hunting adventure with Jerry Tipper and Mark Ford.
Ann Beverege shared that her daughter Emily will soon be graduating from Vanderbilt Law School and has secured a position with the Drummond, Woodsum, and McMahon law firm in Portland.
Kim Hawkes shared that the Kid Lover's Ball last Friday was a great success, noting that everyone had fun and all the auction items sold. Thanks to everyone who supported this event!
Lisa Hallee indicated that she is becoming a grand-aunt today as her nephew and his wife have a son being born today. Congrats, Lisa!

Dave Grenier reminded the group that we need to get Auction Slips in today or tomorrow. Dave also thanked everyone who has gotten their slips in thusfar.
Glenn Leavitt provided the Rotary minute today by sharing information about the Rotary Foundation, which was created in 1917 with an endowment established by Arch C. Klumph. The first donation was $26.50 and by 1921 it had grown to $5,000. Its forst award was to the International Society for Crippled Children which later grew into the Easter Seals. WWII hampered its growth, however, after Paul Harris' death in 1947, it began to grow and expand. Milestones include:
1950's - The establishment of the precursor to the Ambassadorial Scholarship Program.
1960's - The 60's saw significant growth of this program and the establishment of the Group Study Exchanges, and the Matching Grants Program.
1970's - Health Hunger, and Humanity Grant Program created. Existing progreams continued to prosper.
1980's - Establishment of Polio Plus and the University Teachers Grants.
Since 1917 a total of $1B has been donated and more that one million Paul Harris Fellowships have been awarded.
Glenn then discussed what the Foundation Committee is doing this year with the envelopes that were distributed several weeks ago and encouraged the membership to help us achieve 100% participation this year.

Today's Program: The RYLA Experience (Nikki Desjardins and Cora Clukey)
Rotarian Doug Carnrick introduced today's, speakers, our own Nikki Desjardins and Cora Clukey (of Colby College), to describe their experience at RYLA, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, the weekend of September 18-20. Our Rotary Board selected them as candidates and funded their participation.
Days began between 6 and 7am. Twenty nine RYLA participants learned communications, team building and trust. 14 were from Canada and spoke French. All shared one translator, making for cumbersome conversations.
Part of the high ropes course was jumping out, while harnessed, from a 30-foot height to reach a trapeze. Cora tried this, and missed. Nikki's acrophobia was evident as she swung to and fro from 30 feet .... with her comments bleeped out!
During their white water rafting experience the translator did not join them, creating challenges in conveying rafting directions. Cora went overboard and was successfully rescued.
Lessons learned?
Nikki: A self-avowed "takeover person," she learned to be a better listener, and to listen to ALL.
Cora: Leaving two sick children at home was outside her comfort zone. She stayed in the face of adversity.

After their presentation, Sarah presented Cora and Nikki with a Rotary 4-Way Test keychain as a token of appreciation and with the thanks of the Club.
