The Vocational Service Committee report this month will be brief. Please consider this a "status report" as we near the end of the current year. The report will focus less on our accomplishments during the past year and more on what we expect in the months to come.

The second YETE program well under way (revised in numerous ways reflecting what we learned from our first experience). Reports from those involved in this first stage of the program are very positive. Shortly Rotarians (and others) will be asked to participate, as we have in the past, by providing work sites for the students in the program to gain experience while strengthening the skills that they will have learned in the program. Special thanks to Sarah Sugden, Sharon Abrams and Nancy Findlan for their work on this project.

There is good news about our attempts to re-activate our connections with local Roteract and Interact groups. Although schools and colleges are about to close for the summer recess we have had expressions of interest both from local high schools and colleges that are looking forward to forming active groups in the fall. Thanks especially to Erica Humphrey, assisted by Doug Legg, for making this happen. Watch for further news in the fall.

Finally thanks to the leadership of Doug Carnrick, who was assisted by Harold Buzzell and many other members of our Vocational Service Committee, we now have a new design for the Club's visiting banner. Over the last two or three weeks Doug has met with committee members to get suggestions for final revisions which we all agreed would improve the design. Members of the Vocational Service Committee are enthusiastic about the new design. Ally Karter, Sarah Sugden and Seth Sherwood have all seen it and all have said that they like what they see. Our plan is to present the design to the Board at this meeting and if the Board approves it (as we hope you will) we plan to unveil the new design for all members of the Club to see at our next meeting. Have I piqued your curiosity?

I am pleased that Erica Humphrey will be the next Chairperson of the Vocational Service Committee. She will bring fresh insights and a vibrant leadership to what is a great committee. I've certainly enjoyed working with the members this year.

One more report from me next month.
