Cary Tyson serves as the Director of Community & Economic Development for the Kennebec Valley Council of Governments. Most recently he served as Program Officer for Economic Development and Community Engagement at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute. Prior to the WRI he served as Executive Director of the Washington State Microenterprise Association.  Earlier in his career he served as the Deputy Director of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, Director and Assistant Director of Main Street Arkansas. While with Main Street, he served as Project Manager for the Rural Heritage Development Initiative which was a microenterprise and heritage-based economic development pilot program in the Arkansas Delta. He  was elected to the national Main Street Advisory Council and served as its chair from 2011-2012.  He served as a Trustee for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, on the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank’s Community Development Advisory Board and was appointed by Governor Mike Beebe to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Volunteerism. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s of Arts in English both from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Cary serves as Secretary of Discover Downtown Westbrook, on the GrowSmart Maine Advisory Council and on the board of the Kennebec Valley Tourism Council.
